Success Story of the Month, October 2013
NEPHAK, in partnership with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation convened an HIV and TB stakeholders forum in Mombasa county to secure NGOs’ and government officials’ commitment to prioritize HIV and TB interventions in the county.
The meeting attended by more than 30 stakeholders ended with a commitment to rally behind the national goal aimed at achieving zero new HIV and TB infections and zero TB and AIDS related deaths.
Mombasa is among the high HIV burden Counties following a 2011 modeling that indicated that the County was home to 77,100 people living with HIV and in that year alone accounted for 4,930 new infections. The County is ranked 5th among the high HIV burden Counties.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Hillary Ngetich, the NACC field officer emphasized the need for actions for treatment and care to conform to human rights.
